Top 5 Poisonous Foods You Are Eating

Are you eating these foods that can contain salmonella or other contaminants? Below are the top 5 poisonous foods sold in our supermarket worldwide.

  1. Chicken – 17% of chicken samples tested in the Netflix Movie “Poisoned” contained Salmonella. The sample contained 150 different chicken packages from different stores from chicken brand names like Perdue, Cobb, Tyson and others. 29% of these brands were Perdue. This is another reason to eat more grass fed beef and steaks. If you eat chicken make sure it is cooked and so you dont leave any traces of it around your kitchen when opening it and raw. Europe was able to reduce their salmonella in chickens by 50% with new laws. One of the major initiatives involves establishing lower Salmonella prevalence targets in poultry farms and implementing better hygiene practices during slaughtering and processing. This includes thorough testing and tracing to quickly identify and manage outbreaks. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reports that such measures have been effective in reducing Salmonella cases associated with chicken meat. The EU has been focusing on antibiotic resistance, as some Salmonella strains have developed resistance to common treatments. By promoting better farm management practices and reducing the use of antibiotics, the EU aims to mitigate this issue and improve overall food safety.
  2. Lettuce, Salad – The movie also shows how Salad and romaine lettuce can contain high amounts of salmonella due to the lettuce farm being close to a cattle or dairy milk farm. So it is recommended to buy whole salad heads and cut and wash them yourself.
  3. Cantaloupe. The Cantaloupe salmonella outbreak in 2023 scared many. The FDA and CDC investigated a Salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupes in November 2023. The outbreak, which resulted in 407 illnesses, 158 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths across 44 states, was traced to cantaloupes labeled “Malichita” or “Rudy” from Mexico. Consumers, retailers, and wholesalers were advised to discard recalled whole and pre-cut cantaloupes distributed from September to early December 2023. The outbreak has ended, and the FDA’s investigation is complete.
  4. Sprouts: The sprouts salmonella recall seems to happen more and more. In late 2022 and early 2023, the CDC, FDA, and public health officials investigated a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium linked to SunSprout Enterprises’ raw alfalfa sprouts, that infected 63 people.
  5. Red Kidney Beans: Raw or improperly cooked red kidney beans contain high levels of phytohemagglutinin, a toxin that can cause severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Proper cooking (boiling for at least 10 minutes) destroys the toxin.
